And so I begin…
Late last year, during a slow period at work, I took out a screenplay I had written in 1997 entitled “David’s Summer”. It was my first screenplay and it was terrible. After getting a lot of good, honest feedback from Zoetrope.com, I decided to rewrite it from page one. The story was so important to me that deserved a second attempt. I completed that script in January 2008. I felt it was good enough to submit to some scriptwriting contests.
I have recently begun my second script, but I am finding it a harder process. I have been procrastinating. I can’t use the excuse of having no time, because I have lots of it. Perhaps it’s just a fear of failing. I decided to set up this online journal to help document my writing process. Right now I am still in the early stages of outlining. I’m just busting to get started, but I know without an outline, a map of where I want to take the story, I’ll be dead in the water. That’s just the way I like to write. However, I don’t tie myself strictly to the outline should the story take a life of its own. The outline is a living, breathing entity, and I know that’s all part of the creative process.
