Nicholl Fellowships 2008, Part 2

Much to my surprise, I received my Nicholl Fellowships letter today. It states whether or not I advance to the quarterfinals. There were 5,224 entries and 261 writers advanced, but alas, I was not one of the fortunate top 5%. However, the letter was as positive as it possibly could be.

I’m not discouraged by this. The Nicholls are the Holy Grail of screenwriting contests, and far more writers enter this contest than any other. The competition is fierce. Did I really expect to advance with my first screenplay? Well, to be honest, I guess part of me did, but I have a pretty firm grip on reality and I know I still have much to learn. And I’ll only learn by writing more.

And so I go…
