Golden Globes 2010

Unfortunately, I missed the Golden Globes live. I was checking out the Golden Globes website and they have videos of all the acceptance speeches, except for two: Alec Baldwin and Jason Reitman.

Alec Baldwin was not at the awards, so it follows that there’s no acceptance speech. However, Jason Reitman was there. There are photographs of him accepting. What is going on? Why not have Reitman’s acceptance speech? Is someone embarrassed? Is there some kind of controversy that is trying to be swept under the rug? Too many questions.

I found some talk. first here and later in more depth here about a credit battle between Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner (among others in the article) and can’t help but think that Jason Reitman wanted all the credit.

Earlier today, before Youtube pulled almost all of the Golden Globe videos, I did catch a clip of Avatar winning Best Film. Reitman was not happy. If looks could kill, Cameron would be dead. Perhaps Reitman was steamed from earlier in the evening when cowriter Sheldon Turner beat him to the podium.

I like Jason Reitman. I respect his talent. Maybe fame got to his head. He should look back to before he was a household name and realize that if someone else plays a major part in the writing of a screenplay, they do deserve shared credit.

[Update] It seems as though Reitman and Turner did go through WGA arbitration over credit and the Guild ruled in Turner’s favour.
