True Grit

True GritFor a western, not the kind of films that you see in theatres these days, it is truly entertaining. Once again the Coen brothers take a risk, and although it’s an adaptation, or re-imagining, it’s heads and tails better than serving up more sequels and comic book movies. Part of what makes this film so good is all the interesting characters. Every one has quirks and traits that make them unique and entertaining. Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross is instantly likable. From the moment she’s introduced, you’re rooting for her all the way as she wields her words like weapons, manipulating those around her into helping her track her father’s killer. She does it with style, confidence and grace. The cast is equally as strong, with Bridges turning out another Oscar worthy performance. The story never gets dull, and twists and turns keep surprising us.
