The Princess Bride

The Princess BrideNot 10 minutes into this film, my six year old son identifies Inigo Montoya, played brilliantly by Mandy Patinkin, as a good guy even though what he is doing is bad. “I like that guy,” he said. That is the sign of a great story and well defined characters. Good guys and bad guys and bad guys becoming good guys. All the cameos and small bits are played out seriously and for laughs as well. And breaking up the story as it is being read by Grampa is a fantastic way of not letting the film get too scary for younger audiences. This is one of William Goldman’s best screenplays and under the direction of Rob Reiner, you can’t go wrong.
