Let Me In

Let Me InThis is a remake of the brilliant Norwegian film Let The Right One In (and based on the novel of the same name). I have no idea why this was remade, except maybe for those in North America who can’t or are too lazy to read subtitles. There’s a lot of that going around Hollywood these days but the truth is great films don’t have to be in English. While the remake is good, it still isn’t as good as the original, which I reviewed over two years ago. On its own, the film again shows a real teenage relationship, even though it is a dark one. It’s hard and unromanticized, unlike the Twilight series. It touches on love, bullying, courage, and retribution. This film does show more gore with visual effects, but it never goes overboard, which is what made the first version so good. If you see this, you owe it to yourself to see the original.
