Hall Pass

Hall PassI had no idea this was Farelly Brothers film until the end credits, and after everything that transpired in the story, I’m not surprised. I was a little disappointed actually, wanting more than I had just seen. There’s gross out humor, some full frontal male and female nudity (which is refreshing), but it’s more overt, almost like they were trying to hard for a laugh. There are a few cringe-worthy scenes that aren’t that funny, and go on for too long. The end is predictable, and you’ll see the jokes being set up miles before the payoff comes. The “hall pass” is wasted for the most part by the guys, but I guess that’s to be expected too, since the movie introduces them as likeable people with some minor flaws. We don’t want to see these guys throw away what looks like good marriages. I still laughed. I guess that’s what is important, but I really wanted to laugh more. It’s no wonder the one-sheet for the movie states “from the directors of There’s Something About Mary and Dumb And Dumber“, two movies which are far better than this one.
