New script, new outline

Today I begin a new script. I’ve written horror and drama genre scripts successfully so far, so this time I’m going to attempt a comedy. I have heard that the comedy genre is one of most difficult film genres to do well and that scares the shit out of me. Am I funny? Will others think I’m funny? I don’t know so this will help me figure that out.

I have just begun the outlining process, and that becomes finding the story as well as the comedy within it. I’ve always found the outlining process difficult, but time spent here will often reduce the number and severity of future rewrites. It also is a lot easier to identify story flaws in an outline. I’m going to try and keep better track of my progress this time out.

This script also marks the my first official use of the software Scrivener. Ever since I saw it late last year, I’ve wanted to take it for a test drive. I’ll be able to compile the outline as well as keep all my materials, reference and notes all within one file. It even has a screenplay mode which I may or may not use since I have used Final Draft in the past.

This will mark my fourth feature length screenplay, and so I go…
