Taking Woodstock
Inspired by true events, this film is a fascinating look at how the most iconic outdoor concert came to be and is a great companion piece to the official Woodstock documentary. It plays out almost like a comedy of errors. It’s equally amazing that this concert ever materialized like it did. Demetri Martin captures this comedic role in very controlled and subdued way, much like his standup comedy. And you’re in for a treat to see Liev Shrieber’s steal the scenes he’s in, playing a transvestite ex-marine head of security. Unlike the Woodstock documentary, this film captures the behind the scenes drama, rarely showing any concert performances. That’s a good choice. It would only detract from the story.
