Sanctum
Even though this is inspired by true events, the story is still predictable and uninspired. People get trapped, people die getting out. I really dislike it when the story sets up a rule that can’t be broken, shows repeatedly why it can’t be broken (dead characters), then breaks it just to move the story forward because the story has no where else to go. Yes, “the bends” can kill you. It’s a well documented fact. However, if you’re integral to the plot, you are immune. The story is loaded with cliches, and I really didn’t feel any sympathy for anyone in the story. The drowning sequences were particularly off-putting. I am sure drowning is not pleasant and certainly not merciful. Still, I find films about caves and underwater caves intensely creepy, and I would have rated this lower if not for that. I didn’t see this in 3D, and really doubt if it would have made much difference.
